Charges are normally based on
either weight or volume. Weight is calculated in units
of pounds and volume is calculated in units of cubic
feet.
Weight is normally determined after the items had been
loaded and weighed at the weigh station, whereas volume
could be calculated using the standard table of measurement
sanctioned by the Federal Department of Transportation
before the loading and transportation of the items.
